Christ for Us and Christ in Us – October 14, 2016

842x474-Custom-Post-FridayDevotion

Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. He who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God. This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother.
1 John 3:7-10

Christ for Us and Christ in Us

Daily Devotion – October 14, 2016

Devotion based on 1 John 3:7-10

See series: Devotions

Water is a very unique molecule. It is adhesive—it has the strength to bind itself to grass as early morning dew. It is also polarizing—water dissolves things like salt and sugar.

Like water, the power of Jesus is polarizing. John says that the Son of God came into this world to undo the devil's work.

By living in line with God's holy will and by suffering the full wrath of God that our sin deserves, Jesus has destroyed Satan's power over us. As children of God, we live free of condemnation. By rising from the dead, Jesus has undone the power of death. As children of God, we will live with him forever even though we die. That is the power of Christ for us.

Like water, the power of Jesus is also adhesive. No one attached to Jesus in faith makes a habit of sin.

Born again of water and the Spirit, God connects us to the power of Christ. He credits us with Christ's righteousness, covers us with his forgiveness, and gives us command over sin. As people of God, we wage war against sin—refusing to let it dominate us. Instead, we love God our Savior and the people God has saved. We do not let sin define us. That is the power of Christ in us.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, defend me against the lies of the devil, the world, and my own sinful nature that seek to lead me astray. Lead me by your truth on the path to eternal life. Amen.

The devotions on Thursdays and Fridays in September, October, and November are based on the book of 1 John.
