I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I put my hope. My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning. O Israel, put your hope in the LORD, for with the LORD is unfailing love and with him is full redemption.
Psalm 130:5-7
Betwixt and Between
"Betwixt and between" has been an English expression since 1832. Today, you are "betwixt and between" Christmas and New Year's Day. Unless it's your birthday or a special occasion, this "betwixt and between" day may just seem ordinary.
In reality, however, "betwixt and between" can be a suspenseful time, an ominous time; yes, an exciting time, an impatient time, and more, depending on what you are facing next in your life. If you are waiting for a diagnosis in the New Year, if you are waiting for a job opportunity as a mid-year graduate, or if you are waiting for military deployment, several of the above descriptions, and more, could apply to your "betwixt and between" time. The common denominator is that you are "waiting."
Today's psalm verses help you to wait more patiently and confidently. No matter what you are "betwixt and between," no better advice can be given than to adopt the attitude and actions of the psalmist: "I wait for the Lord."
"Waiting for the Lord" means anticipating the Lord's promised help and blessing. It involves attitudes and actions based on the promises of a loving and mighty Savior. The psalmist highlights "trust."
"In his Word I put my hope." God's Word holds the promises and the guiding truths you need. With a "Bible view" of your "betwixt and between" times, you can look forward to needed relief and refreshing with eager anticipation like watchmen coming off the night shift! Why?
It's because "with the Lord is unfailing love and with him is full redemption." Your Savior, Jesus, whose love never fails and whose redemption is full and complete, is your certain help. He is always with you throughout the "betwixt and between" of his promises and their fulfillment. He is the One who lived and died and rose again to save you! The psalmist is right: "Put your hope in the Lord."
Prayer:
Lord, graciously grant me a patient confidence in your unfailing love throughout all the remaining days and years of my "betwixt and between" life. Amen.
